Grad Student and Postdoctoral Training in the Visual Cognition Research Group
Training of the next generation of scientists is a top priority of the Visual Cognition Research Group. We train students in both the Psychology and Neuroscience graduate programs. Postdocs are funded by internal and external fellowships and by faculty grants.
We take a highly collaborative approach, in which students and postdocs are encouraged to work with multiple faculty. This provides broad opportunities to learn multiple methods and approaches and participate in a broad range of research projects. Our goal is for graduate students to develop into independent researchers who build a world-class program of research and for postdocs to attain advanced skills that will make them competitive for top positions in academia and industry. We give both grad students and postdocs the opportunity to build a strong record of first-authored journal articles.
Our previous trainees have been very successful obtaining positions in both academia and industry. Examples include:
Monica Castelhano, Associate Professor, Queens University
Wonil Choi, Assistant Professor, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea)
Emrah Duzel, Professor, University College London
Faraz Farzin, Senior Product Researcher, Netflix
Nick Gaspelin, Assistant Professor, Binghamton University
Todd Handy, Professor, University of British Columbia
Andrew Hollingworth, Professor, University of Iowa
Joe Hopfinger, Professor, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
Amishi Jha, Associate Professor, University of Miami
Emily Kappenman, Assistant Professor, San Diego State University
Todd Kelley, User Researcher, Microsoft Gaming
Carly Leonard, Assistant Professor, University of Colorado, Denver
